This time of year is great because tons of stores have sales on their winter items in order to make room for the spring collections. As such, it is the perfect time to stock up on well-made, classic pieces that you can wear for years to come. I am of the camp that believes in quality and not quantity when it comes to classic staple wardrobe pieces. So if you can get those items on sale – even better!!
S0 pictured here are a few of my great staple investments and I honestly wear each piece very often. When purchasing neutral colors, (tans, nudes, browns), try on a few different shades to see what is most flattering. Some skin tones look better with pink undertones while others look better with gray undertones.
Typically, I like to have these staple items in my closet at all times, and then I fill in with trendy items, (that I don’t spend a lot of money on).
Staple Items: 1 pair dark wash jeans, 1 pair light wash jeans, 1 black dressy coat, 1 lighter (nude, camel, tan) dressy coat, 3 great-fitting bras (this is a big one for me – I am a huge proponent of a well-fitting bra that appears invisible under your clothes), 1 pair black flats, 1 pair dressy black heels, 1 pair nude heels, 1 pair nice riding boots, 1 well-made black sweater, 1 well-made neutral colored sweater, cotton T-shirts (white, gray, black), cotton tank tops (white, gray, black), 1 lightweight scarf (multi seasonal and something that goes with almost any color), 1 great pair of black sunglasses (polarized), 1 tailored black work dress, 1 crisp white button down shirt, 1 pair tailored (and cropped for my 5’4″ body) black work pants, 1 dressy black clutch, 1 every-day (easy to clean) tote, and 1 structured and professional work purse.
From there I fill in with prints, brighter colors, and trendy items. For instance, I live in my destroyed denim right now, but I would not necessarily call them a staple item. I was willing to pay a little more for the jeans in this post because I knew I would wear them often. When searching jeans for women, you need to make sure they are of the best quality, as you may be living in them constantly! I wear these jeans all the time because they fit me well, they’re comfortable and they are versatile enough to be dressy or casual.
What are your staple items?

My favorite staple items are my striped tees, dark wash skinnies, soft relaxed blazer, ankle booties and actually now that I think of it so many more items that I can’t live without that are the foundations of my closet! Great post! P.S. think you would totally love our Sunday Brunch Outfit post that we shared on the blog yesterday!
