I admit that I am not great at wearing color. 90% of my closet is comprised of some type of gray, navy, off-whites, and of course, black and white. But one thing I am great at is trying new things. I think that is probably something that stems from having moved around a lot as a child and always having to make new friends. Being ready and willing to jump in and try new things, was something that always helped.
Now I realize, wearing color is not an extreme here. Oh my god, I’ll try new things, I’ll wear neon!! (MELODRAMA). That’s not what I’m getting at. This post really isn’t about wearing color – it just got me thinking. What I mean is that trying new things and being out of your comfort zone is scary. I lived in China for a year and I was terrified. I tried scuba diving the first time and I was terrified, I made the decision to go to law school and I was terrified. The willingness to try new things, however big or small those things may be, helps mold you as a human. I am a stronger person because I was willing to live in China. I am a smarter person because I was willing to go to law school and put the time in. I am a better person because I said yes when Nick asked me to marry him.
Wearing color has not made me stronger or better or smarter, of course. But little steps should be cherished just like big steps. And the truth is, the little steps are great practice for the big ones.
XOXO – Em
p.s. Henry was so excited to be in this post. He was such a little gentleman, (and a bit of a show-off), for all the pictures!
