Working in the financial industry, the dress code at work is both professional and conservative. I am fortunate to be a part of a relatively younger office, so I am not required or expected to wear suits. But with such a strict, (albeit implicit), dress code, I like to look for ways to make my outfits a little more creative and visually appealing.
This zippered skirt adds a “cool” element to an otherwise standard work outfit. The zipper runs the length of one side, and together with the shape and cut of the skirt, it helps elongate my legs, which is helpful since I am 5’4″. The houndstooth pattern keeps the asymmetrical zippers grounded and makes the modern elements appear more traditional. I paired the skirt with high boots, (mostly because I detest wearing tights), and this way my legs are basically covered and protected from the cold air. The hardware on the boots is gold and matches the zippers on the skirt. This sweater was a gift from my mother for Christmas and it has become a fast favorite. It is loose and cozy and looks great paired with a more structured piece on the bottom (like this a-line pencil skirt, starched skinny jeans and heels, or my favorite Jcrew work pants). I have a feeling I will be wearing this sweater quite often.
