the maxi dress for winter

DSC_0411 DSC_0419 DSC_0422 DSC_0428 DSC_0430 DSC_0433 DSC_0435 DSC_0440 DSC_0441

Normally I pack away my spring and summer clothes when the weather starts to stay constantly cold – usually the end of October. This year, instead of packing my summer maxi dresses, I thought I would leave some of them out to see if I could incorporate them into my winter wardrobe somehow. So far I had not found any reason to wear any of them, but with the holiday party season approaching, I knew I had to get out the dresses. If you’re looking for some long, elegant dresses, I have friends who have bought items like a salwar kameez online and received an abundance of compliments while out and about.

This dress, worn here as a skirt, (I tucked in the top underneath), is this stunning halter dress with a little train that I have worn to more weddings than I would like to admit. It’s just so flattering and easy to wear. Plus, I love blush pink for winter – I think it is a nice departure from the traditional reds and greens worn this time of year. Worn as a skirt, with a good sweater, heels and a sparkly belt, this outfit is a great option for a holiday dinner with friends, a more upscale office holiday party, trip to the theater, (we always see the Nutcracker every December), or a winter wedding. I tried a few different outfits with a maxi dress-turned-skirt and they all worked out surprisingly well. I highly recommend it. And if you’re worried about being cold, try wearing a black maxi skirt or dress and wear tights and heeled black boots underneath!

With all of these holiday parties to attend, it would be nice if I could buy a new outfit and new jewelry for each one of them. Of course that isn’t practical or economical. So, incorporating summer maxi dresses helps beef up my wardrobe and using Rocksbox helps with my jewelry stash. Rocksbox is a service that offers jewelry suited to your style, delivered right to your door! You get online, take a style quiz, which is actually super fun in and of itself, and within a few days, a pretty box arrives in your mailbox and you have $200 worth of jewelry! Membership is $19 a month and you can change the jewelry as often as you want. For instance, in my first Rocksbox, I received a Gorjana necklace, a Loren Hope bracelet and some pretty statement earrings. The first two are pieces that I will wear over and over again, but the statement earrings make such a statement, (ugh pun sorry), that I might only want to wear them once or twice. So I’ll send them back and some other piece of jewelry will arrive! Check out their FAQs for more info.

If you wear any of your summer maxis this winter and you’d like to share, I’d love to see them on IG! Tag your winter maxi dress post with #maximizewinter
