I grew up in the south, so cowboy boots have always been a staple in my wardrobe – regardless of whether they are currently “in fashion” or not. This particular pair I bought in 2005, when I was a freshman in college. During high school, my parents moved us from Chapel Hill to Columbus, Ohio and I was determined to get back down south. So when I moved down to North Carolina to start my freshman year of college, all on my own, I was feeling excited and very grown up. These boots were one of my very purchases and they have always reminded me of that freedom and that new phase in my life that I was embarking on at the time I bought them.
I have since purchased many different pairs of cowboy boots – from vintage to Fryes and I always end up wearing these. I have gotten them resoled twice now and have certainly spent more on getting them resoled than I did buying them in the first place.
I have such a soft spot for clothing that has meaning and memories attached. This scarf was hand knitted by my very talented friend Maria, right here in Columbus. She learned her great skills from her mama and has honed her skills ever since. She’s so passionate about what she does and you can feel the love and effort that went in to each piece she makes. All of her materials are purchased from local craft stores and she designs each piece herself. Check out her website maminahandmade.com to see all of the gorgeous pieces she makes. If you’re a local, you can shop her items at Kifle Shoe Boutique in the Short North , Ladybird in the Short North, Thread in Dublin, State and Third – Downtown, and Art with Anna studio in Bexley. Use code “StayWarm15” to get 15% off any of Maria’s gorgeous knits from now through the end of this month.
I do love getting dressed up, and if you’ve ever seen any of my posts, you know how much I love a good LBD, but, in my book, nothing beats a great pair of jeans, (and these are my absolute favorites), a great T-shirt, and cowboy boots. Unfortunately, these Steve Madden boots are no longer for sale, although I do see them pop up on eBay from time to time. Below I linked to another pair that I LOVE and even tried to buy, although they were out of my size at the time.
Do you have clothing items that you have personal attachments to because of the meaning or memories behind them?
