Has anyone ever told you that a certain color looks particularly good on you? Or have you ever noticed that one of your close friends or co-workers looks particularly good when they wear a certain color? For me that color is some shade of coral or peach – both for what I wear and when I pick out makeup colors. Some people know which colors work best for them and some people don’t, but there are a few easy ways to figure out which types of colors you should gravitate towards based on your skin tone and hair color.
1. Eye and Hair Color. I feel like this is the easiest for most people. If your eyes are blue, gray, or green and your hair is blond, gray, brown or black with ash undertones, (aka no gold or red highlights), then you are cool-toned. If your eyes are brown, hazel or gold and your hair is strawberry-blonde, red, brown or black with red or gold undertones, then you are warm-toned.
2. White Neutral or Off-White Neutral. Do you look better in a stark white T-shirt or an off-white, tan or light brown shade? If you look better in stark white, you are likely cool-toned. If the off-whites, tans and browns look better on you, you are warm-toned.
3. What Color Are Your Veins? I know that is such a weird question but I swear it is telling. Right now look at the veins on the inside of your wrist and the veins near your armpits. What color are they? Do they look more blue or more green? If they look green then you are warm-toned, (aka blue veins through your yellow-toned skin). If your veins look blue then you are cool-toned.
4. What Happens to Your Skin in the Sun? What happens to your skin if you spend significant time in the sun? Do you burn easily and turn pink or red? Or do you tan easily and get golden-brown? If you turn pink or red, you are cool-toned and if you turn golden-brown you are warm toned.
What Colors Should You Wear? So now what does this all mean – you have an idea of whether you are cool or warm-toned but what colors should you gravitate towards? If you’re warm-toned, you should lean toward yellows, oranges, browns, yellow-greens, ivorys, and warm reds, while cool-toned girls should wear blues, greens, pinks, purples, blue-greens, magentas, and true “blue-based” reds.
Hopefully this was helpful or at least interesting as you consider your wardrobe!! Happy Monday my dears!!
