I am a southern girl.  I wasn’t even born in the south, just raised there.  But in my heart I know I am home whenever I am in the south.  Any any good southern girl knows that one of the epitomes of southern outfits is a dress and cowboy boots. If you’re going out on Friday night, you’re in a dress and cowboy boots. If you’re going to a football game, an outdoor concert, a block party or the flipping’ grocery store – dress and cowboy boots.

So even now, as a displaced southern girl in Ohio, I still gravitate towards this ensemble.  A few weeks back, I wrote this post about the pair of boots that I wear constantly and how they remind me of independence and personal growth.  Shortly after I wrote that post, Rocky Brands, out of Nelsonville, Ohio reached out to me to ask if I would be interested in a pair of their cowboy boots.  Rocky Brands carries all types of boots, and when they reached out to me I was confused because I thought they only sold, like, guys work boots.  But they told me they thought I might like their Durango brand – and low and behold they were right!!
But what caught my attention more than anything was how Rocky Brands focuses so much of their efforts on charitable giving in local communities.

Last weekend, Rocky Brands donated over 70 new pairs of boots to OSU Star House, a non-residential shelter for homeless youth between the ages of 14 and 24. Durango has also been a sponsor the last two years for the Tough Enough to Wear Pink Horse Show, benefitting the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Durango donated boots to contest winners at the event and also gave $2 for every pair sold of their Pink Ribbon western boots to the Stefanie Spielman Fund.

So not only do these boots make me feel like I’m back at home in the south, but they are made by a company that cares about causes in my community. I think I’ll keep them.

What companies-with-a-heart are your favorite?

XOXO – Em
