For as long as I can remember, I have had long, straight brown hair. Sometimes I go a little darker, but I rarely go lighter and I haven’t cut my hair short since elementary school when I wanted hair just like Posh Spice, (you know you all loved her hair too!!).

So last week I finally worked up the nerve to make a change. My friend Abi Diedalis has been doing my hair for years now and she is seriously SOO talented.  I showed her a few pictures of haircuts that I really like, (like this and this), and then I told her to do whatever she thought would look best.  She is one of the best hairdressers in Columbus and I figured she knows better than I do what kind of haircut/color would look good on me.  Please let me tell you, I was nervous when I saw 6 inches come off….but I love the way that it looks now and it has given me this new motivation to step outside my comfort zone a little more.

For spring this year I’ve noticed a lot of embellishment trends emerging: tassels, studs, pom poms, lace details, fringe, etc., and so this great military style jacket with studs and zippers is a perfect way to incorporate those trends.  The cut of the jacket and the ruffled collar makes the military style much more feminine and wearable.

P.S. – this exact bag is no longer available but I linked to two similar Kate Spade versions, one of which is majorly on sale!

  1. i’m so happy we’re talking about your hair, because I always want to ask you how you style it. How do you get such perfect, soft waves?

    1. You’re so sweet! More often than not, I wash my hair before bed and let it air dry over night. When I wake up I spritz in a little dry shampoo to add volume and then curl sections with a curling wand. I use CHI Enviro 54 hairspray (which smells amazing!) and that’s it! If I wash it in the morning, I use either a mousse or a texture/volumizing spray and then blow dry it with a round brush and then the curling wand. I don’t hold the hair on the wand for very long or get it very hot – gives you softer waves.

  2. Love this look on you, emily! And the hair is just stunning. Glad to see it is warming up in Ohio – my parents live there and must be so happy it’s thawing haha xo
